The Little Things We Do to Tread More Lightly

We’re mindful of the impact our choices can have, and we’re always looking for simple ways to do things a little better.

From the way we arrange our flowers to the way we wrap, package and reuse, we try to make thoughtful choices wherever we can.

No Floral Foam

One of the choices we're most proud of is that we don't use floral foam in any of our arrangements.

Floral foam is convenient for florists. It's quick, easy to shape and makes it possible to create arrangements that are simple to transport. But it's a single-use product that isn't biodegradable. While it breaks down over time, it breaks apart into millions of tiny plastic particles that can make their way into our waterways. It's also made using chemicals including phenol and formaldehyde, which are considered hazardous.

But our decision to go foam-free isn't only about the environment. We find our flowers last better without it. Flowers arranged in floral foam often need to be cut much shorter and, once arranged, the stems can't easily be recut. This means there's no way to trim the stems again, remove blockages and allow them to take up fresh water. Keeping foam properly hydrated can also be more difficult than keeping flowers in fresh water. Together, this can mean a shorter life for the overall arrangement.

Minimal wrapping

When our flowers are out of a vessel and need to be transported, wrapping helps protect the blooms along the way.

We use only what is needed to keep the flowers safe and present them beautifully, avoiding unnecessary layers or packaging wherever we can.

We also use natural jute string rather than plastic or synthetic ribbon when tying our flowers. It's a simple choice that helps us reduce unnecessary plastic in our packaging.

Waste less

One of the benefits of growing our own flowers is that we can pick what we need, when we need it.

We pick fresh flowers for our arrangements as they're ordered, rather than buying in large quantities and hoping they'll sell. This means we're able to be much more intentional about what we harvest and avoid unnecessary waste.

We also make use of flowers that are past their best for fresh arrangements. Some stems are picked specifically to be dried and used in our dried arrangements, giving them a second life rather than letting them go to waste.

Thoughtful skincare packaging

We’ve also been working to reduce single-use plastic across our skincare range.

Our creams and sprays are packaged in amber glass jars and bottles, our lip balms are now in recyclable aluminium containers, and we use compostable cardboard tubes for our bath salts. Our soaps are wrapped in card, and we've moved away from single-use plastic wrapping for our bath bombs by using cotton fabric instead.

Where we can choose a reusable, recyclable or compostable option, we do. We're continuing to look for ways to reduce unnecessary plastic in the products we make.

A little goes a long way

We know we can't do everything perfectly, but we believe the small choices matter.

Growing our own flowers, picking only what we need, avoiding floral foam and keeping our wrapping simple are all part of the way we choose to work.

For us, it's about being thoughtful about what we grow, what we use and what we leave behind.
