How to Make Your Fresh Flowers Last Longer

There’s nothing quite like bringing fresh flowers home and finding the perfect spot for them.

With a little care, you can help your flowers stay fresh and beautiful for longer. Here are six simple things we recommend when you bring your flowers home.

Tip 1: Start with a clean vase of fresh water

Give your vase a good wash before filling it with fresh water. Any leftover residue or bacteria can affect the life of your flowers.

2. Keep foliage out of the water

Remove any leaves or foliage that sit below the waterline. This helps keep the water cleaner and reduces the chance of bacteria building up around the stems.

3. Find the right spot

Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, heaters, air conditioners and draughty areas. A cool spot with natural light will help your flowers stay fresh for longer.

4. Keep the water fresh

Keep an eye on the water over the following days and refresh it regularly to help keep your flowers happy and hydrated.

If the water looks too dirty for you to drink, it’s too dirty for your flowers. Give the vase a quick clean and replace the water with fresh water.

5. Remove flowers as they fade

Not every flower will bloom and fade at the same time — and that's part of the beauty of fresh flowers.

As individual blooms start to wilt, gently remove them from the arrangement. This keeps the rest of your flowers looking their best and gives the fresher blooms room to shine.

Enjoy your flowers

Our flowers are picked fresh and arranged with care, so we want you to enjoy them for as long as possible.

A little care goes a long way, and we hope these simple tips help you get the most from your flowers.
